hat&beard press

hat&beard press (h&b) is a publication and print production house based in Los Angeles. They work on books for cult audiences while also working on championing the redesign of classics. The identity and visual language uses typography as the method of communication. With this rebellious mindset, I wanted to challenge and push the limit of what an identity could be.

The logo was inspired by the overlapping of cultures and lifestyles in LA. The ampersand acts as a breaking point, taking you backward but also taking you forward, while still forming a connection. Taking things apart and putting things together and “making it work” was the ethos when creating this logo. It’s an exact representation of the city.

Making a statement was important throughout this visual language. With language, typography and boldness that others won’t do.
Lesson of the day: Luster paper looks really nice but gets mad glare outside and is harder to stick on walls with tape.
